We are not aware of a standing Queensland or Australian Government grant that pays for an ordinary roof replacement on the Gold Coast. Some programs touch related work: solar panels and batteries, energy-efficiency loans through lenders, and disaster recovery assistance after declared events. Programs open and close, so check the Queensland Government and energy.gov.au directly, and treat any claim of a guaranteed roof grant with suspicion.
The short, honest answer
The live version of this page described Queensland roof-replacement grants with income limits and eligibility rules. We could not verify any such program, so we have removed it. As far as we can tell, there is no general government grant for replacing a roof on the Gold Coast in 2026. Roof replacement is treated as ordinary home maintenance, paid for by the owner or, where damage is sudden and covered, by insurance.
That does not mean there is never any help. Several programs touch parts of a roofing job, and it is worth checking them before you sign.
Programs that may touch a roofing job
Solar panels and batteries
The federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme creates certificates for eligible small solar systems, which installers usually apply as an upfront discount. The Australian Government has also run programs for home batteries. These reduce the cost of solar and storage, not the roof. If you are re-roofing and plan to add or move solar, doing both at once can avoid paying twice for panel removal and refit. Check energy.gov.au and the Clean Energy Regulator for current details.
Energy-efficiency finance
Some programs work through lenders rather than as grants: discounted green loans for energy-efficiency upgrades such as insulation and solar. These are loans, not rebates. See our financing options guide.
Disaster recovery assistance
After a declared natural disaster, Queensland and Australian Government recovery programs may provide hardship grants or assistance to eligible households. These are tied to the event and the person's circumstances. They are not a roof replacement program, and insurance is generally the main source of funds for storm damage. Resilience programs
Queensland has run home resilience programs in the past aimed at specific areas and hazards, such as cyclone-prone coastal regions further north or flood-affected homes. Eligibility has been defined by location and hazard and may not include Gold Coast homes. Programs open and close; check the Queensland Government and the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for anything current.
What generally does not exist
- A general grant for replacing an old roof because of age or wear.
- A general grant for converting a tile roof to steel.
- A City of Gold Coast rebate for re-roofing.
- A general residential asbestos roof removal subsidy in Queensland.

How to check a program yourself
- Find the program on an official government website (ending in .gov.au) or by calling the agency.
- Read the eligibility rules: location, property type, income, timing.
- Check whether you must apply before work starts. Many programs do not pay for work already completed.
- Check whether a licensed contractor or specific products are required.
- Keep quotes, invoices and photos.
Watch for grant-based sales pitches
Be cautious of door-knockers or online advertisers who say you qualify for a roof grant. Ask for the program's official name and website. Do not hand over bank details, tax file numbers or upfront fees to secure a grant. If in doubt, call the government agency directly.
Insurance comes first after a storm
For storm-damaged roofs, your home insurance is usually the main source of funds. Photograph the damage, make the house safe without climbing up, contact your insurer early, and ask the roofer for a written report. Reducing the cost without a grant
- Repair first if the roof is sound. Targeted repairs can buy years.
- Stage the job. Replace the worst section first.
- Choose materials wisely. A steel re-roof usually costs less than re-tiling.
- Combine trades. If solar, gutters or insulation are planned, coordinate them with the re-roof.
- Compare like-for-like quotes. The cheapest headline price is not always the cheapest job.
